As the Michigan/Wisconsin Coordinator for National Photography Enthusiasts Group (NPEG,) I led a group of photographers on a Lake Michigan Lighthouse Tour. I am honored that Richard Edington (author of "The Photographer's Guide To Great Lakes Lighthouses") agreed to coordinate this trip with me.
8 NPEG members attended (from Illinois, Ohio and Michigan).
Our forecast called for rain, however, we were very fortunate to have great weather the whole weekend with only a hint of sprinkles.
We started at Grand Traverse Lighthouse late Friday afternoon and met for dinner at The Cottage Restaurant. Saturday morning we ventured to Pt. Betsie Lighthouse and then drove south to Frankfort & Manistee Lighthouses followed by Little Sable Lighthouse. The State Park has now completed a sidewalk right up to Little Sable and the beach, so you no longer have to climb up and over the sand dune to enjoy this lighthouse.
We stopped for a quick lunch and headed to Grand Haven Lighthouse for a quick shoot before dinner which was at JW's Restaurant in Grand Haven. We returned to Grand Haven Lighthouse to shoot the sunset. Sunset was windy and cold but everyone persevered! Saturday was a very long but an enjoyable photography day.
We wrapped up the GroupShoot Sunday morning at Grand Haven Lighthouse where we saw a little bit of wave action.
We were able to photograph 6 Lighthouses on this Groupshoot. Sometimes the lighting was not perfect, but the camaraderie was the best with seeing old friends and meeting new NPEG friends!
